Prayer for Vocations (Novena Booklet)

Vocations Prayer BrochureDAY ONE: Pray constantly

Introduction We are making a novena – a nine-day prayer – asking for men and women to be called to God’s service in the Church.

Especially we ask you to pray for new missionary priests and Brothers as Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

From May 21st to 29th we ask you to come together each day to renew this prayer. But more importantly we ask you to keep the desire for God to hear us continuously alive in your hearts throughout all the nine days.

‘Pray constantly’, said St Paul.

Our special prayer this day, the start of our novena, is for the desire to pray constantly.

We start at the beginning; we lay a good foundation. We build on rock, not on sand. The rock of our prayer will be a strong, true desire to pray for vocations.

Jesus had a parable about two sons. The father said to them: ‘go into my farm and do such and such’. And one son said, ‘of course I will go’, but he did not go. The other son said, ‘no, I will not go’, but he went. Which of them did the will of his father?

So our prayer now is to overcome the resistance we may feel to pray. Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them how to pray. He taught them the Our Father, and then told them to be very insistent when they prayed. Reading: Luke 11:1-13
